Verified Buyer Reviewer: Sad2Say Rating: 4/5 Good but 11 is better October 8, 2016 I've gotten lot of good use out of this version of Parallels, but having recently upgraded to 11 (also through OWC), I can say that the latter is a huge improvement. 10 has some fairly evident bugs -- I've never been able to suspend or shut down a virtual machine successfully, for example, and always have to go through a painful boot process after force-quitting the app -- but all appear to have been resolved in 11.

Updates to the popular virtualisation program generally coincide with new versions of the Mac operating system, so it's no surprise to see that Parallels Desktop 11 arrives just a few weeks ahead of Apple's new OS X v10.11 -- a.k.a. But, of course, this year's update also follows the recent arrival of Windows 10, which means that Parallels Desktop 11 is a fairly major update that provides support for both of these new operating systems. Hey Cortana, where's Siri? You can use Cortana running in a virtual machine even when using native Mac apps. Image: Cliff Joseph/ZDNet The most impressive aspect of Parallels Desktop 11 is not simply that it allows you to run Windows as a virtual machine (VM) on the Mac (along with various versions of Unix, and even Android and ChromeOS too), but that it continues to integrate the Mac and Windows environments so that features from each operating system become almost interchangeable.

The 'solution' is before you shut down or reboot your Mac, to completely close Parallels, go into terminal, and enter the following command: sudo launchctl stop com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon It'll ask you for your Mac's password to shut this down. Parallels Desktop 11 for Mac brings a number of speed improvements to the software among other features, including the previously-rumored ability to verbally access Cortana, Microsoft's own digital assistant included within Windows 10, from anywhere on the Mac desktop if Parallels is still running in the background.

Configuration number for outlook expess email with comcast email for mac desktop. In my line of work, quickbooks has been essential for me. I have used quickbooks for mac, but found that it didnt measure up to the windows version. That is where parallels has come in to play. I am able to run a windows environment virtually on my mac, while still being able to use everything I need to for my business! I am so glad I can do this instead of feeling forced back to using an actual windows PC. Cons: Honestly, the only thing I don't like is the constant need to upgrade. Pretty much any time I install an new operating system on my mac, Parallels requires that I re purchase their software because the old version isn't compatible.

But don't let this decide. I think it is a great app. Pros: This program is a great solution for running native Windows applications on an Apple computer without having to reboot MacOS into Windows. While there are cheaper options, Parallels is easier to set up and more user friendly. Cons: The cons of this software are the same for all virtual desktop applications.

I really lucked out and scored a brand new in box 2.9ghz/8gb/512gb 13' rMBP for $1350 on eBay (I really wanted 16gb ram but price was too good to pass up). I need to use windows for some work applications (namely autocad2015, office and our sql based ERP platform). Dual booting may be a pain down the line. Assuming I am not running anything that hogs up ram, would parallels typically run fine, or does it take a performance hit over boot camp? Just gathering information before I start setting up my new MB. Thanks in advance! Parallels is emulation software that allows you to run it at the same time you are in the Mac OS.

You can use all your windows apps and Mac apps at the same time and its very useful. However, things will not run full speed.

Not prepared to do that so I uninstalled. No complaints with product though I just wasn't exactly clear on how much integration was expected to have it work smoothly. I don't need the one Win8 app I was looking to use enough to justify the install. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from.

Hopefully, people reaching out and complaining will push them to re-visit their idea. So, here's my review of the actual software. Parallels makes upgrading easy. I just popped in the Desktop 9 CD, then realized that they will let me download it. I prefer to download as the CD will never survive in my house.

The Pro Edition includes the Microsoft Visual Studio plug-in, which helps you to test your applications across operating systems. The Software Development profile provides the VM with the maximum recommended CPU and memory and enables nested and PMU virtualization. Shared Profile will be enabled but Shared Applications will be disabled by default. The startup view will be Window. On VM shut down, it keeps your VM window open. It also allows Windows to access your Mac’s current location. (Though you must allow Parallels Desktop to use Location Services from OS X in System Preferences first.) Software Testing The name of this profile speaks for itself.

Why would I pay for their technicians to configure my computer when Parallels should just work right out of the box? I called back and tried to talk with Customer Support at Parallels and got another Indian from Southern India this time. The connection had electronic garble and we we couldn't hear one another. After who knows how many minutes, the guy yells on his side to call back.

I don’t have anything against developers offering multiple versions of an application, except in this case. Parallels reduced the performance capabilities of the Parallels Desktop for Mac 11 edition by artificially limiting the amount of that can be assigned to a virtual machine to 8 GBs, and the number of CPUs that can be assigned to a virtual machine to four. This is in contrast to the previous version of Parallels, which had no artificial limits on RAM or CPU assignment. If your Mac had an enormous amount of RAM, then you could assign what you wanted to Parallels; the same was true of CPUs.

Pros: If you have a mac and need to be able to run programs that are only PC compatible then you will love Parallels. I do accounting and the program that I use does not have a mac version that is as powerful as the PC version. Parallels allows me to run both operating systems at one time so I can switch back and forth. It is easy to load and easy to use. Cons: Parallels is very taxing on a machine - especially an older one.

It’s a bit of a sleight-of-hand trick; essentially, Parallels strips out the Windows desktop, opening apps and their windows overlaid on your Mac’s desktop. This allows Windows and Mac apps to seem to be commingling in a single environment, which can be very useful for Windows apps you need to use on a daily basis.
