Verified Buyer Reviewer: Sad2Say Rating: 4/5 Good but 11 is better October 8, 2016 I've gotten lot of good use out of this version of Parallels, but having recently upgraded to 11 (also through OWC), I can say that the latter is a huge improvement. 10 has some fairly evident bugs -- I've never been able to suspend or shut down a virtual machine successfully, for example, and always have to go through a painful boot process after force-quitting the app -- but all appear to have been resolved in 11.

I really lucked out and scored a brand new in box 2.9ghz/8gb/512gb 13' rMBP for $1350 on eBay (I really wanted 16gb ram but price was too good to pass up). I just popped in the Desktop 9 CD, then realized that they will let me download it. I prefer to download as the CD will never survive in my house.

I called back and tried to talk with Customer Support at Parallels and got another Indian from Southern India this time. The connection had electronic garble and we we couldn't hear one another. I don’t have anything against developers offering multiple versions of an application, except in this case. Parallels reduced the performance capabilities of the Parallels Desktop for Mac 11 edition by artificially limiting the amount of that can be assigned to a virtual machine to 8 GBs, and the number of CPUs that can be assigned to a virtual machine to four. This is in contrast to the previous version of Parallels, which had no artificial limits on RAM or CPU assignment. If your Mac had an enormous amount of RAM, then you could assign what you wanted to Parallels; the same was true of CPUs.

Pros: If you have a mac and need to be able to run programs that are only PC compatible then you will love Parallels. I do accounting and the program that I use does not have a mac version that is as powerful as the PC version. Parallels allows me to run both operating systems at one time so I can switch back and forth. It is easy to load and easy to use. Cons: Parallels is very taxing on a machine - especially an older one.
