Quicken has been the default personal finance manager of Mac users for years. But despite its ubiquity, I still run across many Quicken users who aren’t getting the most out of the program. Quicken for Mac 2018 release imports data from Quicken for Windows 2010 or newer, Quicken for Mac 2015 or newer, Quicken for Mac 2007, Quicken Essentials for Mac, Banktivity. 30-day money back guarantee: If you’re not satisfied, return this product to Quicken within 30 days of purchase with your dated receipt for a full refund of the purchase. From the Stable Value Fund into any of the other funds in the plan except Vanguard Prime Money Market Fund or Vanguard Inflation-Protected Securities Fund* (for instance, Vanguard Total Bond Market Index Fund). On April 20 or any time thereafter, transfer the money from Vanguard Total Bond Market Index Fund to Vanguard Prime Money Market Fund.
This is driving me nuts and I'm hoping someone here might know the answer. I use Quicken for Mac (recently upgraded from Essentials) and happy that I can now track my investments.
We don't like it. It worked just fine the way it was. It made sense and its unchanging nature over the decades was a good thing. It was reliable. You could upgrade and use it straight away. It didn't need to be overhauled to the point where long time users will need to re-learn how to use it. To the meeting rooms that thought up this overhaul tactic for the age old, tried and true, Quicken that we all knew and liked, you didn't jump the shark here.
Why are they waiting so long to update their site when Amazon is already selling the new versions? We’re not sure but it’s exactly the same thing that happened last year as well. Updated September 21st, 2014 – The all new PC versions of Quicken 2015 are expected to be released tomorrow – Amazon has just updated their Quicken 2015 release date from October 1st to September 22nd (that’s on Monday!).
Enables you to hide the Transfer field so it doesn’t take-up space. There were also some bug fixes including a schedule transaction bug fix, report payee filter fix, custom report bug fixes and bug fixes that caused double counting of cash accounts in investments. More recently, the latest update to Quicken 2017 on Mac () was released and now includes: • New Transaction Sidebar Indicator: After updating connected accounts, a blue dot now appears on the sidebar, next to all accounts on the sidebar that have new transactions. • Auto-Backup: Much demanded feature to backup files (five at a time) to a designated location after logging out of the app. You can’t choose how many backup copies yet though. • Orange Pencil Fix: You can mark items in orange pencil as removed and delete them.
BTW both machines have cookie files for Fidelity and USAA. Maybe someone saw that the expiring date was 2026 and decided to 'fix it'. And didn't realize that these were required to be retained.
Our Quicken 2015 wish list As users of Quicken Deluxe since 2007, it seems like there is always room for improvements with each release. Here are some that top our wish list: • A better iOS App – While we find the current app extremely useful, we’ve found it to be a little “too robust” for our liking and harder to use than necessary. We’re still not able to get it to properly sync to our Bank of America accounts (our Chase accounts are no problem) and it takes a while to it to sync with our desktop data files (should be immediate).
Keep in mind this is only $5. The claim was denied with no explanation. The thought of them doing this to their thousands of customers and profiting from it irked me to no end, so I decided to follow up again. Once again I was directed to terms and conditions that backed up my position. I was told a supervisor would call me back.
We recommend, therefore, that you before downloading transactions. If you've been downloading account information from vanguard.com using the Quicken Web Connect process and you want to switch to Direct Connect in Quicken 2014 or 2016: • Choose the Tools menu then click Accounts List. • Click Edit on one of your Vanguard accounts. • Select the Online Services tab. • Click Activate One Step Update. • Enter your vanguard.com user name into the user name field and then enter your password into the password field. • Click Connect.
Original review: May 9, 2018 We have been satisfied, loyal Quicken customers since the early 90's. Quicken-TurboTax-Intuit has exploded & gone separate ways. The purchasers of Quicken have decided to gouge the existing customer base. With little warning, Quicken disables all account downloads from existing financial accounts. The software will not link directly to financial institutions & will not import downloaded transaction files.
You log into your account and either without asking you or sometimes with a prompt like 'Is this a public or private machine?' They decide if they are going to 'register' the device. What that really means is that they store a special code in a cookie on that device. When you go to log into again with that device to that server all the cookie information is sent in the request.
I tried their support, web chat, online forums, etc. But the product and app are so confusing I couldn't figure out how to make it work.
Top to bottom, I want to show/hide that giant account name masthead, the Transactions/search row, and the filter row. The v2016 window cannot be dragged upwards smaller than 20 rows of transactions. Does the new interface in v2017 allow reducing the interface window by hiding more elements or by allowing more upward drag or more leftward drag of the account list? Smayer97 I need to correct a few details from the article: – conversion from Windows to Mac is done on the MAC. It does not require the conversion to occur on a Windows PC. This is useful if the user no longer has access to a Windows PC. You only need a Windows PC to perform the conversion IF you are not using current versions of Quicken for Mac or you purchased Quicken through Apple.
I've spent hours with tech support but each time there is a partial fix and I manually update my registers something else goes haywire and I am back to lost info and am unable to reconcile through online. Does anyone have a better product for personal investing and home finance? Original review: May 9, 2018 We have been satisfied, loyal Quicken customers since the early 90's. Quicken-TurboTax-Intuit has exploded & gone separate ways.
For the benefit of others also, bottom line is make sure you have MS Money Plus (2008), or Sunset version installed on your Windows VM. Update your MS Money data file to this version (open your data file once with this version), then import into Quicken for Windows. Then install Quicken for Mac and convert QWin to QMac. Install MS Money Sunset in Windows. If you need MS Money Sunset, get it here: If running Windows 10, they will need to read and follow one of these to get MS Money Sunset to run: (contains link for patch to perform Registry change for you instead of doing it manually). Update your MS Money data to the Sunset format.

However, vanguard is requiring a session cookie to get the data. So the first call will get empty results but it will hand you a session cookie.
If you use Quicken, you enter a new transaction of type 'Corporate Acquisition (stock for stock).' You put investor shares as the 'Company acquired', Admiral shares as the 'Acquiring company', and the conversion ratio 0.7997754 as the 'New shares issued per held share' number. If you use Microsoft Money, you right click on the investment, do a 'Split Shares' and enter a split of 2137 shares for 2672 shares. After splitting the shares, you change the ticker symbol for the fund. If you use a spreadsheet, you multiply the number of shares for each purchase by the conversion ratio 0.7997754 and divide your per share purchase price by the same number. If you converted mutual fund shares to ETF shares, the process for making adjustment to cost basis tracking is exactly the same as outlined above. Say No To Management Fees If an advisor is charging you a percentage of your assets, you are paying 5-10x too much.
Original review: Nov. 27, 2018 I’ve been a Quicken user since 1994. Over the years the app has changed here and there but for the most part, you knew where things were and things made sense.

Bada-boom, bada-bing. Quicken user since 2001 It would be nice if Quicken knew that IRA withdrawals are income. I would like to be able to set up my own Asset Allocation instead of having to use a spreadsheet. It would be nice if Quicken understood that Bonds and CD’s will someday mature.
While I like Mint.com, I like the ability in Quicken to manually enter transactions and cash flow out the next 30 days. Anyway, I have a 401k with Vanguard. Mint.com shows the full value (number of shares X share cost). But Quicken only seems to show 2/3 of that. It shows my mutual funds, the correct number of shares and market price (aligns with my Vanguard online account) but then deducts 1/3 for what it calls 'Cash Balance.'
When you’re ready, you just open Quicken and work with your updated information. Reconcile instantly Reconciling your accounts can be a pain, but if you use online banking, it can be almost painless. All you need to do is turn on automatic reconciliation. In Quicken’s preferences, open the Auto-Reconcile pane.
Mint.com should be the basic online solution for financial management, while Quicken should just add features like they currently do with their packaging. I believe that using the Mint.com app as the base for financial management would also take care of the bugs. This would allow for a vastly bigger user base for beta testing as well since the basic version is free:-).
Finally, although it’s not an essential feature, you still can’t access It’s hard to understand why many of these quite basic features still aren’t part of the Mac product, especially something as essential as loan amortization in a personal finance software such as Quicken. Another shortcoming for home owners is that Quicken for Windows users get automatic updates of their home values, which gives a more up-to-date overview of their net worth whereas Mac users don’t since home valuation isn’t part of the product. It is possible that Quicken will add these features via updates to Quicken 2017 for Mac over the next few months as Quicken are at least on features they’d like to see added to Quicken 2017 for Mac.

Imagine you're explaining something to a trusted friend, using simple, everyday language. Avoid jargon and technical terms when possible.
The fact is that we had a functional system with features that worked, and then the next version, was missing all or many of those features. Now, technically these features were not removed from the product, however, I’ve now been unable to use Quicken for Mac for more than nine years, because these features were no longer available.
Oh The list goes on and on. I have been a quicken user since the begining and update when it becomes necessary, for most often the changes are of little or no use and in many cases they take away features that I like. I used to use Microsoft Money as it was better then the current quicken then it went under. Also this ending the download transactions after 3 years is one reason I do not renew.
Note that there are bound to be some banks and institutions that still don’t work with Quicken Bill Pay (some may also charge application approval fees) but this is often due to problems on the bank’s side and not Quicken so you should always check with your financial institution first to make sure it is supported. Quicken claims to be supported by 14,500 different financial institutions though so it’s safe to say, you should be fine. Even when it is supported, you should still be careful with it when making bill payments as payments can fail for no apparent reason without any kind of notification and it’s often hard to work out if the problem is on the bank’s side or Quicken’s side.
It is now set to only last for the 'session' as in until Quicken/browser shuts down. Of course it begs the question about the very first session on a new machine, how did it ever work. In any case I do believe the problem is on Vanguard's side and they will have to fix it. I dug into the cookies on both machines. And sure enough on the machine that works there is a cookie file for Vanguard and it expires in 2026. There is no such file on the machine that doesn't work. The cookies are clearly 'session' only cookies now.
Under the Download Transactions and Balances section, check the box for Wells Fargo Funds. Under the Online Services section, check the boxes for Download Quotes and Investment Information and Update Portfolio on Investing.Quicken.com. • If necessary, fill in your password. • Click the Update Now button. How current is the account information I download? We update your account information once each business day prior to market open. Why doesn't the transaction information on my statement match the data downloaded into Quicken?
So when something goes wrong, and it inevitably does, it can create a lot of noise, especially if it affects a lot of users at once. The problems that arise cannot be solely attributed to Quicken, though there are many that are theirs to own. So it is important to maintain perspective on this whole issue. Am I saying that Quicken does not have some things they can improve? Of course not.
I called again and they told me they would open another request for a refund. I told them that wasn't good enough, I needed to talk to supervisor. I've still not gotten a call back, and never got a refund. The fact that a company would go to these lengths to keep $5 that they clearly do not have a right to tells you all you need to know about them. And based on the justification they gave me for not refunding the money, my hunch is that they are overcharging all of their Quicken customers.

It will also be a pain if you decide to move your shares somewhere else for whatever reason. However, if you used average cost when you sold shares in the same fund in the past, you are stuck with it.
This is not helpful in tracking my finances but a lot of extra work constantly correcting quicken. When I bring Quicken up it takes forever to come up with the program, since I do not use any online features that does not make sense to me. Sad to say I once loved this program but will have to say goodbye to Quicken and just do everything by hand. Original review: Oct. 18, 2018 I have used Quicken software and Quicken Bill Pay for 15+ years and upgraded to the annual premium Quicken with free Bill Pay. Beware, they don't transfer the old Quicken Bill pay account and you are forced to set up a new user ID and password and have to go through the verification process to get the account approved.

Please consult the Microsoft Windows help for how to set up Administrator rights on your computer. Store your Quicken Data files in a folder that is to your user name (or, if needed, for multiple users on the same computer in a shared folder.' When I click OK and then go into Quicken and try to update my checking account, most of the time it starts to update and then hangs up. I save my files on a thumb drive for easy transportation between computers and before you ask, my wife has a different brand computer with Windows 8.1 with Quicken 2015 for business installed on it and has the same problems. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Quicken 2015 several times, even going so far as to ensure that there is nothing in the registry that pertains to this program. I have renamed the folder on my computer that has any of the Quicken data files to a completely different name so that it couldn't be found during the reinstall of program and imported the old file once the system was installed and running with very little luck. The program was purchased directly from the Quicken website and is a download from them, not on a physical disk.
I created a new data file with only Vanguard accounts in it. • I was able to reproduce the problem exactly how miklk describes with both Quicken 2015, Quicken 2016 and Quicken 2017. Note make sure you try again without restarting Quicken.
• Schedule C and Schedule E tax reports, which can be exported into if you prepare your taxes, or send the data to your accountant. • Rent Center with tenant contact information, lease terms, security deposits and payment history. Quicken Rental Property Manager retails for $165, but before you buy.
If you need to, you can still download holdings, balances, and transactions in Quicken 2017. You can sync your online investment accounts with Quicken 2017 for Mac but we do recommend checking whether your investment institution supports it. For example, investment house T Rowe Price does not support Quicken for Mac because it requires betters support for single-mutual fund accounts. Budgeting One of the other most wanted features in Quicken 2016 was 12 month budgeting. This was another inexplicable abscence from Quicken 2015 for Mac and Quicken 2016 for Mac but has finally been added to Quicken 2017. The 12-month budgeting tool helps you to setup a realistic 12-month budget based on your spending history.
– there are also MANY more subtle but very functional differences like configuration options – interface may be new but it is not modernized. It is inflexible and NOT Mac like. By making it like Windows, helps the Windows converts but the behaviour is nothing like the Mac interface. – users CANNOT see MOST of their data in the Mobile app. They cannot see scheduled transactions, only some details regarding investments, and is LIMITED to cash, bank and credit cardsin other words loans, assets, and other account types are not visible (this applies whether you use the Mac or Windows version of Quicken desktop) – Conversion from Windows can leave out a lot of info, depending on what user data they have, like report formats, investment data, attachments, All this said, Quicken is working to narrow the gap in differences between the Mac and Windows versions but it has a LONG way before they come close. Thanks for your feedback.
