Metal For Mac 2011
Back to the OP, if OS X 10.11 implements Metal and Vulcan and gets developers on board that would be awesome, probably would significantly increase UNIX games available. Steam OS should get a several developers to release games for all OSes. Oh mate, 1080p is just the basic resolution these days. On my iMac 5K, I've played Mass Effect in 4K with upgraded textures and wow, the experience blew me away!
Instead, developers make use of higher-level graphics 'engine' frameworks such as Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4; Blizzard's WoW and SC2 Engine; or Unity Engine. Like Apple's own higher level graphics frameworks such as SceneKit, SpriteKit and ARKit, these already make native use of Metal under the scenes. That means the games you play today--and the new titles you'll look for in the future--won't really be impacted by the deprecation of OpenGL.

This is a smart move, yes. However, I'd like to see apple still extending their openGL support as well. Depends how well it was coded already.
The variety of Mac configurations out there make this sort of thing an inexact science, but in our experience you shouldn't have problems running Windows 8 on your Macs if you really want to. Official support will smooth over some of the rough edges in the experience, including lack of function key overlays and old, old graphics drivers, but Windows 8's compatibility with software and drivers made for Windows 7 should serve Mac users well here. And no amount of Apple brainwashing and arguments from Apple disciples will change the fact that integrated GPUs are a bad choice for gaming. (Unless you consider candy crush gaming. ) That's true. And why shouldn't they?
Metal was first introduced on iOS 8 in 2014, and at WWDC 2015 Apple announced Metal for OS X. Metal makes the Mac's main processor and its graphics system work more efficiently together. This boosts high-performance apps like games, photo software, video editing.
I’m looking forward to Metal on the desktop and, as Apple is shipping the developer beta of OS X El Capitan today, look for more on OS X 10.11 and Metal right away What’s your take?
Why Metal matters Let's take a step back for a moment: Metal is a set of tools that Apple's third-party developers can use for 3D rendering. It bypasses the OpenGL framework — which on OS X is notoriously slow, dragging professional Mac apps down in comparison to their Windows counterparts. To give you an example, Giant Spacekat has a Mac at our office with both Windows and OS X installed. When we use the Unreal editor on the Windows side, importing a spaceship and assembling its materials only takes 10 seconds. On the OS X side, this same operation takes almost 50 seconds. If you're a professional user, those kinds of render delays make a huge difference in what platform you want to use.

C’est la vie. Before I started this ifixit I read a lot of people talking about the antenna not going on properly and problems with the hard drive. I found that the problem is the two grommets inside the front of the casing. These grommets are where the two screws on the existing or upper most (when the case is inverted) hard drive should go into.
Download opera 2013 for mac. Intel's integrated graphics hardware is used extensively throughout the Mac product line, while discrete Nvidia and AMD graphics processors are used on some systems like some 15-inch MacBook Pros, higher-end iMacs and the Mac Pro. It's worth noting that Apple has not posted system requirements for El Capitan on its web site yet, though right now the when it came out last year — that includes Macs that were manufactured in 2008.
01:31 AMPosted by As a Mac gamer, Blizzard has been good to me with just two exceptions. 1) I wish they'd update the D3 client to 64-bit and Metal (PC already has 64 bit). It's necessary soon anyway because MacOS will drop 32 bit support after High Sierra and 2) If we're never getting Overwatch on Mac, the Battle.Net launcher icon has got to go. High Sierra will drop 32-bit support from App store apps. Third party developers' apps that have not been updated to 64-bit can still run, though they may encounter some issues not previously seen in earlier OSes.
Here’s how to disconnect the fan cable. Remove the cooling fan. Now we’ll have to disconnect all other cables from the logic board. I will show how to disconnect them in the following steps.
It also did wonders for the Mac version. Last year Apple Metal, a new graphics engine that should revolutionize graphics and gaming performance. Many high-profile developers were supposedly on board, but over a year later, not a single game supported it. Well, World of Warcraft is officially the first game to support Metal. And you don’t even need to purchase Legion to benefit from it. But what does this mean for performance? We used our internal FPS tracker () to test the game using both OpenGL and Metal: The results speak for themselves.
If your graphics card is compatible, you see 'Supported' next to the Metal entry. You can also note the name of your graphics card and see if it's in the list below. Information about products not manufactured by Apple, or independent websites not controlled or tested by Apple, is provided without recommendation or endorsement.

The vast majority of programs and drivers that work with Windows 7 also work with Windows 8. Luckily this also applies to much of Apple's Boot Camp software, including read-only access to your Mac's HFS-formatted partition, the Boot Camp control panel that lets you select your default boot partition and adjust other system settings, and the software that makes the Mac's function keys operate as they all do in OS X. There are some small issues: the graphical overlays for things like volume and brightness don't show up in Windows 8, though the buttons operate normally, and things that bother me about Boot Camp in Windows 7 (like the inability to access FileVault-encrypted volumes) persist in Windows 8, but the new operating system doesn't bring any major, system-breaking new problems. Ancient drivers ahoy!
“In order to run the new macOS Mojave, Macs must have graphics hardware capable of supporting Metal, Apple’s modern low-level, low-overhead software that provides access to graphics processing,” Daniel Eran Dilger reports for AppleInsider. “Apple’s list of Mac hardware supporting the new macOS Mojave is identical to its list of Mac computers that support Metal. More specifically, Metal is Apple’s hardware-accelerated 3D graphics and compute framework, standard library and GPU shading language.” “Lack of support for Metal graphics is why some of the Macs that are supported in today’s macOS High Sierra can’t be upgraded to run Mojave. This includes 2009-2011 (“non slim”) iMacs; 2010-2011 Mac minis; 2009-2010 plastic non-Retina MacBooks; and 2011 or earlier non-Retina MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models,” Dilger reports. “Drawing a line at Metal-capable GPUs allows Apple to optimize graphics performance–particularly for entirely new software features including multi-user FaceTime and other new iOS-familiar UI features. If you’ve owned a Mac for 8-9 years, Mojave offers a good reason to upgrade your hardware and join the modern Metal party.” “Earlier this month, Apple’s developer documentation advised that active development has ceased for OpenGL and OpenCL on the Mac, and that the APIs will only get ‘minor changes’ going forward. ‘Apps built using OpenGL and OpenCL will continue to run in macOS 10.14, but these legacy technologies are deprecated in macOS 10.14.
Now you can remove the old failed or damaged keyboard and replace it with a new one. Assemble the laptop following all steps in the reverse direction. By the way, sometimes it’s possible to instead of replacing the entire keyboard. When I replace the keyboard I always replace the backlight too. It’s easier to install a new backlight than reuse the old one. It looks cleaner and sticks better to the new keyboard and palmrest assembly.
The new Mojave release will officially ship this fall alongside a new iOS 12, watchOS 5 and the new tvOS, following what has been Apple's regular schedule for OS updates for several years now. In advance of this, Apple is offering a program where users can opt in to download prerelease software, test out its new features in advance and report any bugs they discover to Apple. Metal replaces OpenGL Metal was first delivered in 2014 for the previous year's iPhone 5s to of the graphics capabilities of its custom A7 'System on a Chip,' which bundled a 64-bit CPU and independent GPU. The performance gains from Metal come largely from its optimizations to reduce CPU load, enabling software to much more efficiently make use of the power of the GPU.
On Mac Pro it will be completely different story. Second GPU with performance boost from Metal can be completely unpredictable right now. Gosh, I wish Apple would update Mac Pro to Haswell-EP and AMD Hawaii/Grenada GPUs.
I believe you misunderstood:-) The links I provided to Jim are simply screen shots showing the palette of Gradient Presets available in PPT 2010 for Windows. There's nothing I can do to make them available to you or anyone else. I was able to create the screen shots because I actually do have Office 2010 installed here on a Virtual Machine running Windows 7 operating system. See the suggestions offered to the originator of this conversation in my first reply above. If it will help, I reproduced the Fog gradient using the following settings in PPT 2011: Stop 1: Position 0%, R204 G102 B255 Stop 2: Position 53%, R212 G222 B255 Stop 3: Position 83%, R212 G222 B255 Stop 4: Position 100%, R150 G171 B148 The result applied as a Background Fill is: Please mark HELPFUL or ANSWERED as appropriate to keep list as clean as possible ☺ Regards, Bob J.
Apple doesn't care about gaming, they care about using less ports, lighter weights, thinner design, and fanless systems. Click to expand. How is it possible that people have total misconception about Games on Mac? OSX is a nieche gaming platform. Getting bigger and bigger but still a nieche. There is no FINANCIAL reason why to bring OSX version of the game client to OSX if not enough people will buy it.
If Metal2 is faster than OpenGL and OpenCL, as they historically have been implemented by Apple, would not surprise me at all. However, you need only to go over to BareFeats to see that Metal2 still lags way behind Microsoft’s DirectX — even the prior version of DirectX. Apple used to claim that Mac graphics was slower than DirectX because of OpenGL.

**Use a fine point blue sharpie (or similar). **Add two lines a couple inches apart, extending back from the metal housing lip onto the drive shroud. **Add two short lines by tracing the curve of the housing across the first two lines. **Use the marks to line everything up when reassembling. *Reinstall with the mini standing on it's front end **The drive slots in high in the case. There is a substantial gap between it and a 9.5mm second drive.

It also helped to insert the end of the cowling closest to the heat sink first, which acted as a 'fulcrum' for the cowling to 'click' onto the standoff post. When reassembling this aerial plate, it may take a very strong force to align the side lips with the screw bays. The circular edge on the body is meant to slot into the plate by less than 1mm. I followed the rule of thumb, which is, if it takes an unusual force, stop and think it out to avoid a disaster! Then, I hit on using a paper clip to get around this problem.
Make a paper clip L-shaped to loop through a hole close to the edge of the plate, where the slotting is not deep enough. Gently lifting the paper clip, slide and push the aerial plate in place.
Did Apple just kill DirectX? Unreal Engine (Epic Games), Modo (The Foundry) and Adobe CC will be running on Metal, and that's just the beginning! Last year I posted a question what if Metal ran on OS X. And got mixed negative replies.
You can leave the battery attached to the case but it’s necessary to unplug it from the logic board. Disconnect the battery cable from the logic board. Remove three screws securing the cooling fan. Disconnect the fan cable from the logic board.
There'll be plenty of reasons to install El Capitan on older Macs even if you don't get the benefit of Metal support: Features like Split View, an improved Spotlight, improved Safari, Mail and Notes, easier to use Mission Control and much more.
At its 2017 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced Metal 2, the next-iteration of its graphics API for iOS, tvOS, and macOS. Metal 2 includes support for VR content creation for the first time, and when Metal 2 was highlighted at the event, Apple said Valve, Unity, and Unreal would bring their VR tools to the Mac.Epic Games is making good on Apple's promise, and has announced that it is releasing early access support for developing for virtual reality on Mac platforms through the Unreal Engine Github. At WWDC, Industrial Light & Magic Chief Creative Officer John Knoll took the stage to demo the Unreal Editor running live in VR mode on one of Apple's newly announced iMacs. Going forward, Epic Games plans to add full support for VR development on macOS in an upcoming release.

It seemed like it should work, but nope. So, after disassembling again, I played with it some and the best, most surefire way to get it to line up is to hold the unibody upside down when inserting the drive. It has to be essentially at the top to catch the holes. Thin drives make it even more of a problem. Once I did this, it fit in great and stayed in with no need to hold down, and there was now another 1/8' between the motherboard and the drive, which doesn't seem like much, but in this tight case, its everything. The antenna plate then went in perfectly, all 4 screws were in with no issues at all and the connectors for the two drives stayed on with no issue. Like others, I found with my November 2013 purchased Mac Mini, Apple had installed the internal hard disk in the bottom location (bottom when working on the unit upside down as detailed in this guide).

There's Tomb Raider, the Borderlands trilogy, X-Com, and a handful of indie titles, but many major games like Mass Effect haven't been ported. I worried that 'Metal' had become Apple's version of 'Blast Processing,' a catch phrase in the 90s for the Sega Genesis. In commercials, Sega would gloat that only the Genesis had 'Blast processing.' The only problem was, Blast Processing didn't really do anything that mattered. But it turns out, I was wrong. Metal for OS X is huge — and it's going to be a much bigger deal on the Mac than it is on your iPhone or iPad. If you use a Mac to produce professional content, chances are, Metal is about to drastically speed up the professional apps you use like Adobe Illustrator and Autodesk Maya.
This is not 100% correct. Of course, you can buy a new palmrest/keyboard/trackpad assembly and replace the whole thing but it’s possible to replace just the keyboard itself. For this repair you’ll need the following tools: – T6 torx screwdriver. – PH0 Phillips screwdriver. – PH00 Phillips screwdriver. Also, I would recommend making notes of all removed screws (they all have different length).
